Frostbitten: 2016 Holiday Charity Bundle by Charlotte Stein

32471528

Genres:  Romance, Adult, Paranormal (Vampire), Erotica, MMF

Published:  November 28,2016

Told in heroine’s POV

The Blurb:

Shy nurse Cora both dreads and lives for the moments she sees Zeke, an orderly at the hospital where she works. Zeke is too handsome, too compelling, too much, and seems totally unaware of Cora. But before she can bring herself to his attention, an explosion rips through the hospital Christmas party.

Zeke has noticed Cora—in fact, he’s so irresistibly drawn to her that he saves her from the explosion by turning her into a vampire, much to the jealousy and resentment of his partner, Merrick. Zeke hates being a vampire, and now that she’ll live, doesn’t want Cora to suffer his fate. If they can both resist the overwhelming instinct to bond, joining their bodies as Cora draws her maker’s blood, she might be able to return to her normal human life.

As Merrick uses every erotic trick to keep Zeke distracted from the blood passion, Cora becomes more and more drawn to both of her reluctant captors. And more and more happy to abandon her old life in exchange for an eternity with two hot immortal lovers. All she has to do is convince Merrick and Zeke that being a vampire isn’t all that bad.

My Rating 3 Stars…

Cora, Zeke and Derrick…..

I originally rated this as 3.5 stars. However, while writing my review, I changed that to 3 stars. I have quite a bit to say about this romance. First it was not very romantic. There are three main characters however it felt like the heroine was the main and the heroes were secondary characters. This novella is written only from the heroine’s perspective. I usually prefer alternating POVs in my romances however I do read and enjoy plenty that are only a single POV. I struggled with this one. I will add that the author gave broad insight into Cora’s mind. I understood her pain and suffering; emotional and physical. Unfortunately that was not the case with Zeke and Derrick. I had no connection with them at all. Not even in the end. That said, had this book been written with all three perspectives I would have loved it.

Also, other than good looking, tall, with blue mesmerizing eyes…I could not picture what the heroes looked like. Maybe I missed it while reading but I didn’t know what Cora looked like either. The setting was bland, non descriptive as well. All we got was a dirty old cabin and a basement bedroom. One more issue I had was that this book is part of a holiday bundle BUT the only reference to Christmas was the mention in the first scene of the book taking place at a Christmas party. And that was brief to say the least.

Zeke and Merrick are very old vampires. They are also in a relationship with each other. Zeke works as an orderly at the same hospital Cora is a nurse. Although the trio does not officially know each other, they were involved in a tense conversation when an explosion occurs. In order to save Cora’s life, Zeke “changes” her to all of their dismay. Especially Merrick.

When she regains consciousness, after the explosion, Cora finds herself sparsely dressed and chained to a wall in an old, filthy cabin. I won’t give away any details as to why. You should read it for yourself to find out about her imprisonment. I will tell you it is an understatement when I say Cora was angry and dismayed. There were a heck of a lot of other emotions involved.

Merrick is angry that Zeke changed Cora. He is even more distraught over the fact that Zeke’s feelings for her are very intense and possessive. “Feverish” is how they described it.

This trio had to go through so much emotional pain and stress in order to find their HEA. In regards to the ending, it was a bit abrupt and I really wish the author gave us an epilogue. So if you enjoy paranormal romance with a vampire twist that is steamy, dirty and sexual with the added bonus of a MMF relationship told in one POV, than you should give this a try. It is a short novel.

The Cowboy's Christmas Present (Cowboys of Colton County, #3)The Cowboy’s Christmas Present by Joann Baker

Book three in the Colton County series was a cute story. I admit I was hesitant to read this book. In the first book, the hero was despicable and I didn’t like him. Not even in the end. In book two the hero is likable however he frustrated me a bit. That said I was glad I gave book three a try. I really enjoyed it.

Quinn Sutton was a likable hero. He was protective and sweet. When Quinn is asked by his former employer and mentor to look after his daughter, he doesn’t hesitate. Of course Quinn is not expecting such a strong attraction to her. Nor was he prepared when his instincts to protect and possess overcame him, to his surprise. He never had such an intense and immediate attraction to a woman before. But Faith will only be in his care for a short time. Definitely too short to start anything. Not to mention the fact she is the daughter to a good friend that he respects. That alone says, “don’t touch.” Unfortunately the longer Faith is under his roof, keeping his distance is becoming harder to do.

Faith Greene is sent, without any notice, to Montana. She is to stay with Quinn Sutton. Faith’s father is a lawyer and the case he is working on can put her in danger. Though she isn’t pleased, Faith makes the best of her new temporary living arrangement. What she is having issues with is her growing attraction to Quinn.

This is a cute story. It was fast paced with little to no angst and a Christmas theme. I don’t want to add too many details to my review since this is such a short story. But I will say again that I enjoyed it.

Holly Flynn and Anthony Burke…

This was such a great book. Yes it was a little predictable but it was sweet and sinful at the same time. I also loved that it was a Christmas romance, hence, the reason I read it now rather than it getting lost on my growing TBR. That said, I am so glad I didn’t wait. Truth is I would have enjoyed this story just as much had it not been Christmas themed. The main characters were amazing. This book was written in Holly’s perspective. I admit I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get to be inside of Anthony’s head. I prefer the written style of a novel to be in both H/h POVs. This was the reason I rated half a point down. But that is just MY preference and not a negative reflection of the authors’ talents.

Holly’s dream is to become an actress. Since she hasn’t reached that goal yet, she is working two low paying jobs to make ends meet, as well as buy Christmas presents for her parents and sister. Holly loves Christmas and loves buying gifts for her family. One of her two jobs is playing the part of Santa’s elf at a large retail store. It is here she meets Anthony when he brings his nephew to visit with Santa. Anthony asked Holly to dinner after only a short conversation. Instant attraction… 🙂

Anthony is a successful, wealthy businessman. He has extremely good looks, all the money he’ll ever need and a beautiful apartment. What he doesn’t have yet is a woman to share his life with. After only one date with Holly, a relationship forms between them pretty quickly.

There is no angst in this book. It was a wonderful story of love and passion. Holly was a sweet, kind woman. Anthony was the epitome of romantic. I loved him. He was sexy, smooth and dirty talking. I can’t think of one negative comment to make about either Anthony or Holly. That said, I would definitely like to read more by either of these authors.

I absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for a light Christmas romance packed with love, romance and lots of sexy times. 😉

Her Christmas Cowboy by Helen Lacey

Told in dual POVs

The Blurb:

Now Elyse has to make a choice–to go back to the city and her old life…or take a chance on love.

Her Christmas Cowboy (Novella)Her Christmas Cowboy by Helen Lacey

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Her Christmas Cowboy” is written by author Helen Lacey.
Published: June 15, 2016
My Rating: 4 Stars

This story was oh so sweet. A second chance romance…..

Elyse Prescott abruptly left her hometown right after high school. It wasn’t only her hometown she left. At eighteen, all she could do was panic when her boyfriend, two years older, proposed. It wasn’t that she didn’t love Brett. Elyse just wanted a different kind of life for herself. That life included a new start somewhere else. What it didn’t include, much to Brett’s dismay, was marriage and babies.

Brett McCrane is a hometown boy. Well, man now. His town, his home, his family’s farm are all in his blood. They are all part of his future. Brett mistakingly thought Elyse was going to be part of that future as well. He was heartbreakingly wrong. With a broken heart he did what he had to move on. Unfortunately his heart didn’t get that memo. Even after over a decade, Brett couldn’t deny his feelings were just as strong.

A family situation brought Elyse back to her hometown. When she sees Brett again for the first time, things between them are excruciatingly tense. It is obvious he is still angry over her abrupt and cruel departure. Neither Elyse or Brett knew how to act around each other. The atmosphere around them is thick with tension. Almost every time they try to talk, an argument breaks out. Brett is understandably resentful.

I felt sorry for Brett at times. Elyse was selfish for leaving the way she did. She could have tried to talk to him, explain how she felt. But she didn’t. She just left. It took time for Brett to realize it wasn’t him personally that made her run. When they finally got past all the hurt and emotional pain, Elyse and Brett realized they were still in love with each other. But they didn’t know how to work it out. How could they be together? Brett’s life was on his farm. Elyse had a career far from Brett. Someone would have to sacrifice.

The ending happened pretty quickly. It was predictable. I didn’t mind that. I enjoyed this story and was just so happy that Brett and Elyse found a way to be together. This was a sweet romance and perfect for the Christmas season.

Nolan Ducayne plays ice hockey for the Rangers and is the best defender in the league. Candice Levine is an Olympic gold medallist figure skater. They’re fiercely attracted to each other. There’s just one little problem. They’re at war over the pond ice that lies on the boundary between their properties.

Christmas has always been lonely for Candice but this year she plans to embrace the season. She’s even going to get a tree, which leads to all new problems with Nolan bloody Ducayne. The bane of her existence. He thinks he owns the ice. If only he wasn’t sin on skates.

When Nolan comes home and finds the ice princess trying to cut down a tree on his property, he can’t help but take advantage of the situation. It’s a pity Candy hates him, because she stirs every one of his protective instincts. Not to mention the other thing she stirs.

Hockey player versus ice skater. The battle lines are drawn. But when the pond ice breaks and Candy falls into the freezing water, Nolan risks his life to save her. A short and sexy standalone with a guaranteed HEA.

What a great Christmas romance! “Candy for Christmas” was romantic and sweet. I have to say that I am a fan of this author and have read all her books. Unfortunately there isn’t enough.

The blurb above does a good job at explaining the premise for this story. I will try not to repeat anything in my review.

Nolan and Candace (Candy)…..

From the beginning I pretty much figured out what kind of man Nolan was despite Candy’s complaints and the animosity between them. I liked Candy too but not as much as Nolan. The story starts with Candy trying unsuccessfully to chop down her own Christmas tree. Unfortunately she didn’t realize that particular tree is on her neighbor’s property. At least she didn’t until he brought it to her attention. Nolan and Candy may be neighbors but they are NOT friends. They are at odds with each other about the boundary of the pond that sits on their properties. They constantly argue over who the pond belongs to. SO naturally it was not a little surprising to Candy when her nemesis finishes chopping down the tree then carries to her house for her. Why would Nolan does this if he hated her so much?

As is typical, things are not as they appear. And when a near fatal accident occurs, Nolan and Candy can no longer remain enemies. I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish. It was so short and easily read in less than two hours. I wish it were longer. Also, I want to say the epilogue was amazing!

If you are looking for a sweet Christmas romance you are sure to adore, I recommend “Candy For Christmas.”

With a handsy aunt, a meddling mother and a father concerned for the wellbeing of his daughter’s eggnog, there’s no chance Sam and Noel will have time to fall in love…or will they?

The Stocking Was Hung is a standalone, Christmas story that will make you laugh, make you HOT and maybe even make you say, “Awwwww” a few times.

Funny! Outrageous and funny! Romantic too!

“The Stocking Was Hung” The Holidays #1 is written by author Tara Sivec.
Published: November 30, 2015
My Rating: 5 Stars…

“The Stocking Was Hung” is the first book I have read by this author but definitely not the last. So up to this point I have already read several Christmas romances. That is actually a good thing, I guess. Since this was a five star for me, it set the bar pretty high. I don’t know how many Christmas romances you read each season; if you allot yourself a certain amount. That said I hope you will take my recommendation to heart and add this book. Not only was it romantic but it was so damn funny. The secondary characters were outrageous.

Noel and Sam…..So we know this is a Christmas romance. The premise of this story is one we have certainly seen many times. However I can’t think of any at the moment; this one is so memorable.

Girl meets boy in a bar…..

Girl convinces boy to come home with her and pretend to be her boyfriend. She just can’t disappoint her parents again…..

What follows is fun and romance and family bonding. The dialogue at times was outrageous. I kept thinking, “What did he just say?…….Oh no she didn’t just say that!”

Sam is a marine. While waiting for his connecting flight home he ends up at the airport bar. It is here he meets Noel. Not only do sparks immediately fly, but from the moment they interact, the fun and witty banter begins.

Noel is on her way home to spend Christmas with her family. She recently lost her job. Shortly after that, she walked out on her boyfriend when he tried to propose. Noel dreads going home now and listen to how disappointed her parents will be with her.

I’ll say it again…..loved this book! Sam and Noel keep the pretense of their relationship status up for as long as necessary. However, at some point during their days together the pretense has become reality. Unfortunately they are both afraid to admit their growing feelings for each other. But as usual the shit hits the fan. Will Sam and Noel admit their true feelings? Will fear and pride get in the way? You’ll just have to read this wonderful book for yourself. And if you do, I promise a journey full of crazy fun, laughter and romance with the perfect happy ending.

My Review:

Burn It Down (Burn Series #2)Burn It Down by Dee Ellis

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Burn It Down” Burn Series #2 is written by author Dee Ellis.
Published Date: December 17, 2016
My Rating: 5 Stars…

Just wow! I loved this book! This novel is second in a series and the second book released by Dee Ellis. I admit I was both wary and excited to read “Burn It Down.” Wary because the first novel was very long and although I was in love with Cage, I had a hard time connecting with the heroine Charli. And excited because I liked Finn and Gigi from the first moment we met each of them on the pages of “Let It Burn.” That said…

Finn and Gigi were fantastic in this book. The drama for these two started from the beginning and stayed steady throughout. There were good and bad times. Angsty for sure. Another great addition to this novel was the aspect of suspense which added to the tension in the story in a good way. It was a page turner for sure.

Finn and Gigi were struggling to work out their relationship. It was an emotional journey for sure. I liked that there was an element of danger that stayed constant in the background and at the same time it was an elemental part of bringing them closer. The plot twist got harder to predict and I’ll say when the climax came, no pun there 😉 I didn’t see it coming.

Finn Cooper is a Chicago firefighter. He is tall, blond, blue-eyed ,well built, broad in muscle, intense and as sexy as they come. Hot damn! Finn totally made my book boyfriend list! Finn also just so happens to be Gigi’s brother’s best friend. In fact, Finn has been close to Gigi’s family for many years. When he was a teen, they offered him a home, love and stability. When you read, you’ll learn all about why. I will say that Finn’s family was not nurturing.

Despite being older, Finn has been in love with Gigi for years. However it wasn’t only age difference that kept him from making a move. He believed he wasn’t good enough for her. Gigi had a crush on Finn and he knew it. He did everything he could to make her see he was bad for her. I’ll say that when you truly love someone, you can see past the bad. You see the real person inside. Gigi knew Finn well.

Gigi Cooper (yes they coincidentally have that same last name) has wanted Finn for years. She wanted him in every way possible. Unfortunately because of the complexity of their own lives and their growing relationship, that was not an easy task. Finn never give Gigi hope that they could be together. At the beginning she believed her feelings were unrequited. In fact, Finn had a reputation of being a manwhore. One night Gigi decided she was not going to watch him take another woman home. She made her move and he was powerless to fight against her. Not after denying himself for so long. From that moment on they secretly started to see each other. Secretly because Finn was afraid of what Gigi’s brother, Cage, would say or do if he found out.

And that is where all the heartache and tension begins. Cage did indeed catch them together. What hurt Gigi the most was that Finn didn’t fight for her. I won’t say more because reading about their struggles in finding a way to be together was one of the parts I loved the most. If I didn’t love Finn before, I sure as heck did watching him try to fix things with Gigi. I. Loved. Finn! He especially struggled. His sincerity was intense. He was amazing, patient and loyal. She may not know it yet, but Gigi was one lucky woman.

My heart was weeping over and over for this man. I also won’t give away any details of the suspense happening. I will say that I loved how that issue was presented and how anxious I was trying to figure out that bit of drama. I will say that I had some suspicions as to the climax, but I still got a surprise.

Dee Ellis wrote an amazing story of romance and suspense. All aspects: monologue, dialogue, settings, and secondary characters blended perfectly for a well developed, steady to fast-paced novel.

I look forward to the next book which I am guessing/hoping will feature Hunter and Lola.

My Rating: 4 Stars

“Bear Humbug” was book three and sadly the last in the Christmas Bear Brother’s series. I enjoyed this short, fun, and sweet Christmas romance. And though the series is over I will be reading more from this author in the future.

Declan and Maria…..

“Bear Humbug” was my favorite story of the three. And coincidentally, Declan is my favorite of the three sexy bear brothers.

Declan is the oldest brother and the sheriff of Bear Bluff. Like his brothers before him, he too is lonely and longing to find his mate, the woman he is meant to spend his life with. Because he has been lonely, he is frustrated leading to a grumpy existence. I liked Declan a lot. I didn’t think he was very grumpy at all. And Declan is about to receive an early Christmas gift. The best ever! Declan got his gift only a couple of days before Christmas when to his shock and surprise she shows up unexpectedly at his sheriff’s office. Unlike his brother’s mates who are shifters, Declan’s mate is human. Of course he doesn’t mind that at all. However he’ll have to take things slow as not to scare her away. She does not know about the shifter world.

Maria recently moved to Bear Bluff to take over the care of her only nephew. Sadly, her sister and husband were killed in an automotive accident, leaving behind their teenage son who is desperately trying to deal with life without his parents. Luckily he has Maria; she will do anything to be there for him. But unfortunately he runs away and Maria seeks the help of the sheriff to find him.

Although the attraction is instant and love is there at the very beginning as well, Declan takes things slowly. He must not only convince Maria that she is his mate, the woman he loves…..he must find a way to show her his bear without freaking her out. I won’t go into detail since this book is only 81 pages and you should read it to enjoy it.

This was a sweet, short story with a happy ending, of course. What made it even nicer was the Christmas theme. So if you are a fan of instalove, sexy stories, bear shifters and Christmas romance, I recommend this cute story.

Santa Paws (Christmas Bear Brothers #1)Santa Paws by Harmony Raines

“Santa Paws” Christmas Bear Brothers #1 is written by author Harmony Raines.
Published: November 21, 2015
Book 1 of 3

My Rating: Between 3 – 3.5 Stars

I thought this story was cute. I liked the characters, main and secondary. Also this was very short at about 75 pages. I enjoyed it enough that I also read the other two books in the series which I will review separately. What I had a bit of trouble with was reading about sex, Santa Claus and Rudolph in the same book, which were all part of the story. NOTE…Santa did not have sex. Let me just make that clear right now. The premise was a bit strange, different.

Dermot is a bear shifter, a paramedic in the small town of Bear Bluff. Dermot deeply longs for a mate. I loved Dermot. He was sexy and sweet. As with nearly all of the shifter stories I have read, there is instalove. This was LITERALLY love at first sight! There was no getting to know each other prior to intimacy, no build up or relationship development. But Dermot was so happy to have found Vicky. His wonderment and excitement endeared me further to him.

Vicky was a shifter as well. A reindeer. I liked her but didn’t love her. It was nothing she said or did. I just didn’t connect with her as well as I did Dermot. Her relationship to this story was peculiar; not what I expected at all. At one point it was very predictable. But at the same time it was silly enough to be entertaining.

Overall, I liked this book for what it is: a fun, sometimes funny, unrealistic, silly, sexy story.
