From May Kay Andrews, the New York Times bestselling author of Hello, Summer, comes a novella celebrating the magic of Christmas and second chances in The Santa Suit.
When newly-divorced Ivy Perkins buys an old farmhouse sight unseen, she is definitely looking for a change in her life. The Four Roses, as the farmhouse is called, is a labor of love–but Ivy didn’t bargain on just how much labor. The previous family left so much furniture and so much junk, that it’s a full-time job sorting through all of it.
At the top of a closet, Ivy finds an old Santa suit–beautifully made and decades old. In the pocket of a suit she finds a note written in a childish hand: it’s from a little girl who has one Christmas wish, and that is for her father to return home from the war. This discovery sets Ivy off on a mission. Who wrote the note? Did the man ever come home? What mysteries did the Rose family hold?
Ivy’s quest brings her into the community, at a time when all she wanted to do was be left alone and nurse her wounds. But the magic of Christmas makes miracles happen, and Ivy just might find more than she ever thought possible: a welcoming town, a family reunited, a mystery solved, and a second chance at love.
My Review: ๐๐๐๐๐
Hopelessly sentimental, rewarding, refreshing, perfect feel-good read. I canโt wait to read more from this author. Superbly written fiction with a touch of the best tropes.
I literally gobbled this up in a couple of hours. I woke up, had my coffee and sat down to read before the rest of my household woke up. I enjoyed this book, uninterrupted and hated when it was over. In fact, while reading I glanced at my page count and saw that I was already at 85%. That rarely happens that I am that engrossed.
The Santa suit first caught my eye from an email I received highlighting upcoming releases. And after reading the blurb, I was hooked despite the fact I don’t usually delve into the Christmas trope until at least October. I’m so glad I did.
While this book has a bit of several tropes for example: Christmas, second chance, mystery, women’s fiction, romance and new beginnings, I did not feel the plot was overdone. In addition, there is a wonderful plot twist at the end that just made me tear up.
I won’t go into detail about the premise of this book. The blurb will tell you all you need to know and the book will leave you teary-eyed and smiling. This is actually my first book by this author and I will most definitely be reading more from her.
Do I recommend this book? Absolutely! Don’t wait for the holiday season to read this fulfilling fat paced Christmas gem,
While I received an advanced reading copy ofย The Santa suit, this is my honest and unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time ro read it.
