“What were you
and the guys talking about?”
Ah, so she was
watching me. I wonder what is going through that pretty little head of hers.
“Nothing much. Aaron was thanking us for offering to work with him and Julie.
He’s nervous. If we can’t help them loosen up, he’ll lose his seat on the
“He’ll be fine.”
She brushes it off.
“I agree, and
that’s what I told him.” We continue to move to the music, but our movements
are a bit off as we get lost in our conversation.
“What were you
girls talking about?” I stare into her eyes, hoping to get a glimpse of that
interest Aaron was referring to.
She laughs.
“You.” She pokes me in the chest.
“Me?” That
surprised me but thrills me at the same time.
She nods. “You.”
She spins around.
“Dare I ask what
She stops dancing
and fans her face. “I’m hot, wanna get a drink?” I guess I’m not going to hear
what she was talking about.
“Sure.” We walk
back toward the house together to grab something to drink. Destiny stocks the
coolers with tons of liquor options. She has mini bottles of wine, wine
coolers, beer, hard tea, and so on. We’ve all tried to kick in for the parties,
but she never allows us too. She hasn’t come out and said it but has hinted
that her parents left her very well off.
“I’ll grab us
drinks. You grab us some seats.” She offers.
I walk over to a
quieter area and grab us two empty chairs. I’m really hoping to get her to open
up. Jade and I have known each other a while, but Jade is not one to talk
freely with anyone anymore.
“Here.” She hands
me a beer. “You know, if you keep drinking beer, your six-pack abs are going to
disappear,” she says with amusement.
I laugh. “You’ve
noticed my abs?”
She rolls her
eyes and takes the seat next to me. “Bentley, let’s be real, I’m not dead. I
still see men.” She takes a sip of her drink.
“It’s the part
about you seeing me that I’m interested in.” I take a pull from my beer. I work
out hard for my abs. Between dance and my community gym, there’s no way I’m
losing my abs to a couple of beers.
She leans back in
her lounge chair, crossing her long, lean legs at her ankles as she sips on her
spiked seltzer. I never realized how much I noticed her until she became
single, and I made it my mission to make her mine.
“Bentley, I want
to move on, but when you’ve been hurt the way I have, it’s hard to trust.” She
glances over at me.
I inch our chairs
a bit closer to keep our conversation private. Leaning forward, I rest my
elbows on my knees. “I’m sure it is, but what if I told you I was willing to
earn that trust?”
She sighs. “I’d
say, I need to think about it.” She glances over at me. “I swore off dancers
five months ago and now…”
“Jade,” I say her
name, stopping her from going further. “It’s not dancers you have to watch for,
some men just suck. They are pussies and can’t admit when things aren’t working
out for them.”
She nods,
watching the waves crash upon the shore. “It’s all over the studio that we’re
going to end up a couple because of the connection we have when we dance.”
There’s uncertainty in her voice.
“Do you deny the
connection?” I’m not sure she can. It’s obvious.
She grins. “No,
there’s no denying that.” She sits up and turns in her chair, our legs
intertwined, and she looks me in the eye. “The problem is dancing is my escape.
I leave everything out on that dance floor, my heart, and soul.” She shakes her
head. “I’m not sure I can handle being hurt by another dance partner.”

Secrets of the World's Worst Matchmaker (The Baileys, #7)Secrets of the World’s Worst Matchmaker by Piper Rayne

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Being a huge fan of Piper Rayne and particularly this series, I have anticipated Juno and Colton’s book since the very first Bailey Book was released. From the first Book, which is Austin’s story, we are introduced to a bit of the dynamic of Juno and Colton. Are they just best friends? Are they more but keeping it a secret? And most importantly…Why are they not a couple yet? The author gave us some insight into the whys in Secrets of the World’s Worst Matchmakerhowever it was nothing I hadn’t already guessed. Even the situation with Colton and Brigette did not end up surprising me. The author went back in time to give us glimpses of Juno and Colton as they grew together. I wished there was more. I felt as if something was missing. I really hate saying this because I love the Bailey’s so much and am such a huge fan of Piper Rayne but I can’t help feeling this book was rushed or not given enough thought. Conflicts resolved too easily; there wasn’t a lot of angst and I felt a lot of the book was predictable. Please don’t misunderstand. I enjoyed reading Juno and Colton’s story and it was well-written but from the first chapter, I felt there could be more for these two characters. This is just my opinion and you should make your own. I did have very high expectations going in and I expected more angst and drama.

While I kept going back in forth in my head about my feelings for Juno, Colton was amazing from the start. Of all the heroes I have read this year, Colton is one of my favorites. His patience and kindness as well as his loyalty to Juno were beautiful. At times Colton did come off a bit sappy but that was one of the traits about him I loved so much. He deserved a happily-ever-after and I was so relieved when he finally got it. So, all that being said, I did not hate this book; I’m glad I got to witness Colton and Juno finally become a couple. The last pages of the book give us glimpses of what’s to come. And from those bits into Sedona and Kingston’s stories, I am suspecting a lot more angst. I’m not sure which book will come first but it doesn’t matter to me. With only two Bailey siblings left, that means this series is going to be over and that saddens me. The Baileys have been one of my favorite series and I hate to have to say goodbye. If you haven’t read any of the books, I recommend you do. I would also start with book one as you will have a more enjoyable reading experience.

This is my honest and unbiased review and I appreciate you taking the time to read it. Thank you! 🙂

“Working For It” Series: A Cook Brothers Novel, by Author BJ Harvey, Genre: Surprise baby, friends to lovers, house flipping romantic comedy, is Available NOW! #NewRelease

Title: Working For It
Series: A Cook Brothers Novel
Author: BJ Harvey
Genre: Surprise baby, friends to lovers, house flipping romantic comedy
Release Date: May 6, 2020
Sometimes a surprise baby can lead to unexpected happy endings.
It started one night in Vegas over a naughty cocktail and dirty banter. Eight months of bedded bliss later, Gilly Nelson says the two words Ezra Baker never saw coming: “I’m pregnant.”
Twice-divorced Ezra has always acted first, thought it through later. Except in Gilly he finds an equal; a strong-willed, independent woman who doesn’t need his money or kind heart to get ahead. She just wants him.
Career-focused Gilly never imagined she’d be thirty-five, single and pregnant. Except when Ezra suggests they date rather than just mate, she finds herself wondering whether the man she’s been looking for has been in her bed all along.
If they can survive raging hormones, house renovations, and the realities of childbirth, surely creating a family will be a walk in the park…right?
Working For It is a full-length house flipping romantic comedy that can be read as a complete standalone and is the fifth and final book in the Cook Brothers series. Working For It is Ezra Baker’s story.

“I believe BJ Harvey is the Queen of romantic comedies.”

“This series just keeps getting better and better!”

“Fan-flipping-tastic that’s what this book is, holy mother of god do I love these Cook men.”

“Working for It is everything!!! You need this book in your life.”

“This entire series is some of BJ Harvey’s best work to date.”

The thing about best-laid plans is they can go awry. Case in point: I’m currently stuck—more like wedged—in the bath by my hips, one leg bent in the water, the other ankle hooked on top of the faucet, and try as I might, I cannot prune my overgrown lady garden to save myself.
This isn’t a new problem. I tried to get in to see my lovely Taiwanese aesthetician last week, and she informed me that she was fully booked for the next month. It’s my own fault. I figured I’d get to be the size of a whale—like I am now—and the last thing I’d want was sex because sex was what got me into this situation in the first place. Regardless, I begged and pleaded and made an absolute fool of myself, but she couldn’t fit me in. I could’ve booked somewhere else, but there’s a special relationship between a woman and the person she trusts with hot wax and her vagina.
That doesn’t help me right now though. Horny, frustrated, and wanting to make a good impression when I jump Ezra, I thought I could just give myself a quick tidy-up down below, and all would be well.
Except I couldn’t get the right angle with a mirror in one hand and a razor in the other, and there’s no way I can see around my giant pregnant belly full of my baby whose latest trick is to bounce off my cervix like a trampoline.
But I’m too stubborn and too proud to call out to Ezra to come save me. He poured a beautiful-smelling bath for me, lit the few candles I had scattered around the room, then helped me down into the water and then left me with a kiss on the lips and a spring in his step, no doubt in the knowledge he’s going to get himself some—and soon.
It’s definitely not going to happen now though, because by the time he comes looking for me, I’ll be a wrinkled, pruney mess and my vagina will resemble a soaked hedge attacked by a swordfish.
My eyes sting with tears, but I blink them away. Then they start falling, and I try to swipe them off my cheeks until I can’t keep up. I drop the razor and my dignity, and bury my face in my hands.
The door creaks open, and I know this moment has just gone from bad to worse.
“Are you still aliv—hey, what’s wrong?” Ezra asks, crossing the room. He gently pulls my arms away and tilts my chin up, his worried eyes searching mine. Dropping to his knees beside the bath, he pulls me in for a hug.
“I’m getting you all wet,” I whimper.
“Don’t care about that. I do care that you’re sitting in the bath crying when you’re supposed to be relaxing.”
I tuck my face into his neck, my shoulders shaking with sobs. “I… I… I can’t even shave myself.”
He pulls back and frowns at me. “What? Why do you need to shave your legs?” My beautiful clueless man.
“Not my legs…” I say, my voice cracking as the tears hit again, my frustration and anger rising. “All I wanted was to make it easier for you,” I whine. Ez opens his mouth, but I’m too far gone to stop now. “And my waxing lady couldn’t fit me in, and now I’m going to give birth soon, and Dr. Cameron won’t know if it’s the baby’s head full of hair or my Sasquatch vagina,” I sob. “And then I got stuck!
“Sweetheart,” he says, all soft and warm, and making me want to slap him in my irrational pregnant rage. “You know I don’t care about—”
My head snaps his way, and my eyes narrow to slits. “Every man cares about whether they can find their woman’s vagina or not, Ezra. You need to know where it is so you can see where to stick your big cmmph.” My words are muffled by Ezra’s hand covering my mouth, his lips twitching yet his eyes gentle—albeit apparently amused by my meltdown.
“I think I can help out if you’ll let me.”
“How?” I snap, my stupid emotions even giving me whiplash.
“Well, first,” he says, shuffling back and standing. He leans over, cups my face, and kisses me long and hard and deep until I forget my own name. Then he slides his hands down my body to my waist and locks his gaze with mine. “Brace your arms on the sides, and push up as I lift.”
“You can’t—” I gasp, and his eyes narrow.
“I can, sweetheart. Now one, two, go,” he says, bending his knees and lifting me with a quiet grunt he no doubt tried to hide.
By the time I’m back on my feet in the now knee-deep water, I’m gripping his biceps so tightly; I’m expecting to see a row of half-moon bruises there tomorrow. I let out a huge sigh of relief and sag against his soaked T-shirt. “Thank you,” I breathe.
He drapes a towel around my back. He steps away and wraps it around my front. “Why didn’t you call me to come help you?”
I avert my eyes, and my cheeks burn. “Because it’s embarrassing.”
He pushes my chin up with his index finger and dips his head. “Do you know that Faith got herself into a pile of trouble trying to paint the cornices in her baby’s nursery a week before giving birth?”
“What?” I ask.
He grins. “Yep. Bry found her on her tiptoes on top of a three-step ladder with paint spread from her nose to her toes. She had to brace herself against the wall with her spare hand because she somehow forgot that her center of gravity had shifted due to her baby belly.”
“Mine was my big ol’ child-bearing hips getting wedged on the sides of the bath when I tried to—”
“Do something you could’ve asked me to do?”
I cover my face with my hands. “I would never subject you to that.”
His lips twitch up into a devilish grin. “I’m quite attached to the place you’re so adorably disparaging.”
I roll my eyes. “You know what I mean.”
“No. What I know is that you’re going to drop that towel and sit down on the bench in the shower.” He closes the distance between us, one hand curving around the back of my neck, the other drifting down to grab my ass. “And then I’m going to shave you how you’d like, and then I’m going to turn you around and show you just what this beautifully curved body of yours does to me.”
My mouth drops open, my breaths quickening as a wave of heat washes over me, and I have to clench my thighs together to stay standing.
“Any objections?” he rasps, leaning in so his lips are moving against mine.
“Nope,” I squeak, earning a grin against my mouth.
“Good,” he says, giving my butt a quick, sharp smack before stepping back. “Now carefully go get ready for me. I have some pubic art to create. I might even shave my name down here, just so everyone knows you’re mine.”
My mouth drops open, and I stare at him, dumbfounded. “You did not just say that?”
He shrugs and shoots me a sexy smirk. “Hey, it’s only me and Dr. Cameron who will see it. Why not have a little fun with it?”
I narrow my eyes and point a finger at him. “You will not do anything fancy down there, mister.”
He quirks a brow. “And how would you know? Besides, isn’t vajazzling the thing to do these days?”

My eyes bug out of my head as I wonder who the hell I’ve procreated with. “Nope. I’ll let you trim the forest but no decorating the tree, okay?”

The Sheriff's Baby Bargain (Angel Point, #1)The Sheriff’s Baby Bargain by Susan Lute

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh, wow!
I just loved this book! While some of the story was a little predictable, there were original elements that were new to me. I honestly thought the ending might go a bit different from how it actually did. And while that was just a teeny bit disappointing, I found after reading the last page, that I couldn’t have been happier that Gabe and Taylor found their happily-ever-after. I finished this book several days ago and this couple, this book is still on my mind.

All the characters in this story added more complexity and enjoyment for me. Especially Daisy and Rose. And while there were plenty of secondary characters, that fact did not take the spotlight away from Gabe and Taylor. The synopsis of this book does a good job letting you know what to expect but the talent in which this author weaved this story made The Sheriff’s Baby Bargain so much more. There was some angst, suspense and even some guessing on my part. I don’t want to say there are dark elements to this story, but there is a bit of a cloud shadowing all the happy. As, I mentioned, I wasn’t 100% sure how this book was going to end. But I’m so pleased with how it did.

This is the first in the Angel Point series. I am so in love with this small, enchanting town and I can’t wait to see what comes next. I definitely recommend this sweet romance!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

After a stage dive gone wrong, I woke up with a gorgeous, tattooed stud sleeping at my bedside. When he opened his deep, dark eyes, I felt something I’ve never felt for any man before.
Too bad I didn’t realize the beautiful, brooding man was Logan Young, my drummer and best friend.
Not only could my feelings destroy a fifteen-year friendship, but his girlfriend’s father holds our fate as musicians in his hands. One false move, and our careers are over.
Is that a risk we’re both willing to take? Or will the duet of our love song remain a solo?
